Job Summary 

The Sr. Cost Accountant (Business Analysis) will be responsible for business analysis and meeting key business operations and objectives.

This position will analyze and break down Profit and Loss data based on business and product type, including cost analysis by cost components (materials, labor, overhead, depreciation, SG&A, and non-operating expenses). This position will report monthly Profit and Loss results and other financial matters to Hyundai Motor North America during Monthly Committee Meeting – Financial and the monthly costing committee which updates cost trends and forecasts for the Sales Team and the Chief Sales office, who is responsible for pricing strategy based on given cost circumstances.

Essential Functions

Business Analysis

  • Profitability Analysis of business areas, products, and customers
  • Overall analysis on Profit and Loss components (material, labor, overhead, depreciation, S&GA, non-operating expenses, margin)
  • High-level strategy regarding profitability enhancement and collecting and drafting saving/profitability strategies in collaboration with responsible departments/personnel
  • Monthly reporting: Management, Headquarters, Hyundai Motor North America

Meeting and Reporting

  • Monthly Committee Meeting – Financial
  • Monthly Profit & Loss results and plan vs actual analysis utilizing data from monthly closing and ERP system
  • Reporting to Hyundai Motor North America and following up on requests/instructions
  • Monthly costing committee (sharing cost trends/Profit & Loss results of monthly closing with Sales team, Sales Operations & Analytics pricing strategy review
  • Management/Finance reporting

Other duties as assigned

  • Inter-departmental communication
  • Reviewing proposals as needed
  • Continuous process review and improvement for responsible areas

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or Finance
  • 5 years of progressive experience in public or private accounting
  • 3 years of experience in Cost/Managerial Accounting
  • Strong financial analysis experience and, problem-solving and communication skills
  • Knowledge of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

Preferred Education and Experience Requirements 

  • Previous experience with SAP
