Job Summary
The Procurement Associate III will work independently with limited supervision to procure Class A and B items, including difficult items sourced from China which requires consistent planning and forecasting to secure materials. This position will work with suppliers on quality issues, countermeasures, improvements, and monitoring effectiveness of the improvement plan. The person in this role will fully understand the application of parts and be able to suggest alternatives for solutions with limited supervision and will provide guidance to operations employees.
Essential Functions
- Be responsible for an assigned number of materials, moderate to difficult (Class A & B items)
- Review inventory vs requirements and order accordingly
- Some planning and forecasting of long lead time material or materials from overseas with limited supervision
- Create and issue purchase orders to suppliers
- Follow up with suppliers to ensure on time shipments
- Track shipments and expedite deliveries when necessary to meet production dates
- Inform supervisor of potential material shortages and assist with the implementation of both short and long-term solutions
- Maintain purchased orders and make changes as necessary, such as sales cancellations, revisions, production changes, ERC, etc.
- Maintain inventory levels and purpose order delivery schedules to minimize obsolete, inactive, and excess inventory
- Follow up on shipment discrepancies and price discrepancies on supplier invoices
- Maintain accurate material costs in the system
- Follow up on materials in MRB, such as filing claims with suppliers, returns to suppliers, and receiving credit memos from suppliers
- Collect NAFTA and manufacture of affidavit from suppliers
- Gather pricing information from suppliers for special sales quotations
- Price negotiation based on commodity price trend
- Enter accurate price information in Costing files
- Provide support to other departments as necessary
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Be able to provide training and guidance to junior level procurement associates
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 5 years of experience in procurement and an understanding of basic/general procurement work process
Preferred Education and Experience Requirements
- 5 years of procurement experience in a manufacturing environment
